yesterday it was 105 degrees here. and insanely humid. in may! in oregon! it was almost unbearable. i went to a baseball game at western and probably lost about three pounds of water weight. yeesh.

i'm pretty sure my family gets funnier every time i see them. mother's day we got together with the yoder side and i laughed the whole time. hard. to the point that my face hurt. it felt good.

sigh.........it feels so good to be here.

i have two stories worth sharing:
1) mom was grocery shopping at the safeway in woodburn, and in
coming out into the unusually sparse parking lot, finds an irate older
man screaming at a woman in her car, apparently because she had
inadvertently crossed the line between the parking spaces and her back
tires were slightly intruding on the parking spot next to her. he was
parked diagonally from her and had wanted to pull his car all the way
through into the spot that was now unavailable because of the woman's
back tires. the man (who is about 70), continues to scream and carry on
about how he wanted "that spot." (mom described it like a 2 year-old
throwing a temper tantrum). Finally, he pulls down his pants and moons
the woman in her car! after that he sort of stalked off into the store.
mom thought it was the most ridiculous thing she had ever seen; dad was
upset that he had decided not to go shopping with her after all.
2) josh's football coach is an avid steelers fan, and as our family was
rooting for the seahawks, dad thought it would be the perfect
opportunity to pull a prank on the coach compliments of one of the
quiestest kids on the team. they never suspect the quiet ones. so dad
spray paints a sign that says " go seattle" on it and they go about
trying to find a way to put the huge sign up in the guy's yard. mom had
to be the driver of the get away mini-van, a role she was none too
pleased about, but agreed to anyway. dad wanted code names: "little red
riding hood" for josh and "the red baron" for him. josh vetoed it. said
they were too long. so dad was derek (an alter-ego of his for as long
as i can remember. he thinks it sounds masculine and intelligent and
suave. i think it sounds like a soap opera character). josh was axl
knorben knusen. axl for short (also an alter-ego. "axl" from axl rose,
lead singer of guns 'n roses, and knorben knusen from the swedish
television skit off SNL. when he's being a real dork, he won't even
asnwer me when i call him josh. i have to call him axl). mom was
appointed "susan" by dad. she wanted to know why she got a boring name
and dad said that she didn't even want to go in the first place, so she
had to have a boring name.
they staked out the area by driving slowly by the coach's home three or
four times. then josh and dad ran out with their huge painted sign and
large easel they found to prop it on and strategically placed it in his
yard. then they made mom drive by his house two more times to make sure
the sign was going to stay and that it was clearly visible from the
road. affirmative. mission accomplished.
all this happened within the past week. i can't believe i left home.

i hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
never settle for the path of least resistance
livin might mean takin chances
but they're worth takin
and lovin might be a mistake
but it's worth makin
don't let some hell bent heart
leave you bitter
when you come close to selling out
reconsider
give the heavens above
more than just a passing glance
and when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
i hope you dance
i hope you dance
i hope you still feel small
when you stand beside the ocean
whenever one door closes i hope one more opens
promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
and when you get the choice to sit it out or dance......
dance
